Introducing Community Organizational Health
Community Organizational Health Inc. (or COHI) is committed to fostering quality, innovation and learning within health and social services organizations. COHI owns and administers the quality improvement and accreditation program called Building Healthier Organizations (BHO). Developed in 1998, COHI is a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization. For more information see About COHI.
Introducing Building Healthier Organizations
Building Healthier Organizations (BHO) is a tool and a process for promoting continuous learning and improvement in not-for-profit organizations. It is also an accreditation program which can provide assurance to the board, clients, community and funders that accepted standards are being met. Originally developed for Community Health Centres (CHCs) in Ontario, it has now been modified to be pertinent for other not-for-profit, community-based organizations across Canada.
To date fifty-three (53) community health centres have been reviewed by teams of trained peer reviewers using BHO, with many of these organizations having experienced three (3) BHO reviews. In addition to these participants in the formal BHO review process, numerous other not-for-profit organizations have used BHO as a self-assessment tool as part of their own quality improvement journey. For more information see About BHO.
